Review of Commander Keen: The Last Moon by XkyRauh
Overall Rating: 7
Another mod that bursts out of obscurity with a slew of new ideas, tricks, and graphics--a wonderful surprise!
Keen's visit to this alien world is colorful, well-planned, and efficient... perhaps too efficient. The graphics have a polished feel that is almost detatched and unfeeling, and the levels are almost like technical manuals on how to make a challenging mod: jumping puzzle here, key maze there, enemies scattered here, points at corners A and B. Despite the host of new alines, and the epic nature of Keen's quest, the game never really settles into an organic nest for the player. Something about just doesn't say "Keen" to me.
One confusing note about the map screen--be sure to check all the colored boxes--some players skipped levels, thinking they were merely part of the scenery!
Overall, this mod does exactly what any mod should do--it takes an existing product and shuffles things about, offering a fresh perspective on a classic game.
