Although this is merely a beta, CommanderSpleen has presented enough new material to boost this mod above many finished products--the amount of time and effort devoted to this mod is truly astonishing.
From the moment the title screen pops up, the player is innundated with graphical flare--everything from a changed font to the slickly detailed title screen. The gameplay itself just gets better.
As is customary with all mods, there's a certain amount of familiarity which needs to be reached before a mod can truly be appreciated. After the player has learned which tiles are dangerous and which ones are helpful, the gameplay becomes quite fluid.
The levels themselves are very true to the Keen:Vorticons standard--which includes areas of particular danger, door puzzles, and areas which are clearly just for fun.
What truly makes this mod stand out, however, is the incredible variety of graphics and scenes. Each level looks almost like a mod in and of itself!
It really is too bad this is simply a beta--but it does a great job of whetting our whistle for the future.
